Universal Remote Controls

Universal Remote ControlA universal remote simplifies our lives. A single remote control can now be used to run every electronic gadget in your home - from a Sony television, a JVC VCR, a Panasonic receiver, a Magnavox DVD player, a Sony Playstation 3,

Universal remotes can vary from a $10 basic model from your local discount store to an advanced model costing several hundred dollars. The more expensive controls are super intelligent. For example, there is a version called the learning remote control because it can automatically detect, read and store the codes of other remotes or electronic devices.

Most universal remotes that are sold today areĀ  either device based or activity based and both types are quite popular. The utilization of the device-based radio control is easy. Controlling other devices is straightforward as the remote control identifies the other devices when the user presses a different device button and then the remote starts sending command to the new gizmo. An example of a device-based remote is the Home Theater Master line of remotes.

Activity based universal remotes are programmed to work based on activities. In this rather than controlling each device individually the user can instead target the activity that they need to perform. As an example the user might wish to watch a motion picture, or hear some music, or simply watch TV. As a selected activity is chosen, the universal remote control may send out the obligatory signals and commands to varied mandatory devices in to turn on and to configure device to do the specified activity. One of the hottest activity based remote controls is the Logitech Harmony line of remotes.

In deciding which remote control to purchase, think about what you would like it to do and the budget you have in mind. Investigate the two types of remote controls discussed and determine which most appeals to you based on the type and number of devices or activities you want to control in your home.
