I actually don't know about any of those sets but I did buy my dad the Panasonic SC-PT760, which is one step above the one in your list. It is OK but was a little weak for the room it was installed in ( 20 x 12 ) but the actual components work OK. You can get the PT760 for $330 shipped free from here or take a look at the other sets they have. This e-tailer and OneCall get a lot of my business and both are highly recommended.

Of course, for $850 - $1200 you can get a decent 7.1 receiver / speaker combo that will be Blu-ray ready. I discuss this in another answer but the Onkyo TX-SR606 ( or SR706 ) + Definitive Technology ProCinema 60.6 ( or ProCinema 600 ) is a pretty good serious starter set.
