can i use a infrared transceiver instead of a wireless router?
i want to know because i have an itouch and no wifi and i don't have a wireless router and don't plan on getting one what so ever, i do have a ir transceiver that is connected to pc through usb, so i want to know if there are any ways i can connect to internet through the ir transceiver.

high speed internet, (time warner cable)

no, this is not possible, one, the the speed of data transmission usinf infrared would be so slow that you might as well have a 14k dialup, two, the itouch wouldnt support an infrared internet or network connection either. Also if this were possible, you would have to continuously maintain line of site with the infrared transiever and stay close to it the whole time, as soon as it lost on bit of data the whole package would get corrupted and the setup would have to go through and reconnect and indentify each other. pretty interesting concept though. maybe use in military applications using infrared lasers in very tight beams...?
